THE V.I. MUSEUM

arious artefacts related to the school's long and colourful history have for many years been stored in the Principal's office. With the passing of time there was a pressing need for a proper place to house these items. In 1988 the V.I. Historical Society prepared a room to display most of these items with the exception of the photographs of the past principals which to this day still hang in the school hall.

In 1989, the conference room, which was adjacent to the Junior Library, was converted into a temporary museum. After a brief period, the collection was relocated to the Junior Library itself. The museum was later moved a third time to another location, next to the present location.

In 1992 as the number of artefacts grew increasingly larger, the school set aside two adjacent classrooms on the ground floor as a permanent site. The V.I. Museum was officially opened on August 6, 1993 in conjunction with the school's centenary celebrations. The establishment of this Museum was generously funded by Mr. G. Gnanalingam, the parent of the Vice-Chairman of the Museum Board of 1993, Rubendra Gnanalingam.

The V.I. Museum is constantly maintaining and adding to its collection and welcomes financial donations and contributions of artefacts and memorabilia from Old Victorians.

Museum Entrance

The entrance of the Museum on the ground floor facing the
basketball court. Come on in, say the members of the Museum Committee,
all hand-picked history students with a love of the subject.

War Memorial for V.I. Staff

The V.I. Staff War Memorial. Except for G. Barber who died in World War
One, the other six were pre-war European masters who had joined the
Federated Malay States Volunteer Force and died in POW camps during the
Japanese Occupation. The list includes G. Burgess, the designer of the
V.I. crest that decorates the top of the memorial.

Historic Events

Photographs of historic events of the school including the
presentation of the H.M.S. Malaya Bell in 1947 and the Japanese
surrender in the School Hall in 1945.

V.I. Hostel Bed

A bed and attached table used by VI hostelites in days of old.
The mural depicts the school as it appeared in 1927.

Old Sports Trophies

Trophies, including the Yap Fatt Yew Trophy awarded to the all-round
champion House, used in the various Inter-House sports competitions.

Marks Register

School master record book showing final examination marks in
all the subjects of pupils enrolled in the years 1949 to 1952.

Old School Magazines

The collection of school publications, dating back to the twenties and
thirties, including the first issues of The V.I. Echo and The Victorian in 1923.

Famous V.I. Personalities

A gallery of some prominent Victorians including the Sultan of Brunei,
Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz, Foo Kok Keong, the Sidek Brothers, and Mokhtar Dahari.
